Works have started on line 2 of the Sao Paulo metro in Brazil

On 17/01/2020 the Sao Paulo Governor, Joao Doria, and the Secretary Oof Metropolitan Transport, Alexandre Baldy, signed the service order for the immediate start of construction of the metro Line 2-Green Line extension from Vila Prudente (not included) to Penha in Sao Paulo, Brazil.   

  

This 8.3km section involves  8 new stations (Orfanato, Água Rasa, Anália Franco, Vila Formosa, Guilherme Giorgi, Nova Manchester, Aricanduva and Penha) and  it will be completed in 2026. 

  

In 2019, the project for  the extension of metro Line 2-Green Line from Vila Prudente (not included) to Dutra in Sao Paulo was resumed by the Government of Sao Paulo, with the reactivation of contracts for the preparation of executive projects and the subsequent start of works.   

  

On 26/07/19 the O.S. (Ordem de servicio/ Service Order) were issued for the elaboration of the executive project of lots 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 and on 10/11/19 it was issued to the O.S. (Ordem de servicio/ Service Order) for the elaboration of the executive project for Lot 1. 

  

On January 2020 the consortium composed by Sacyr Construccion, Galvao Engenharia and SA Paulista has begun construction works on Lot 1  (value contract  EUR443.2 million/1.9 billion Brazilian reals with a 69 months for construction) with the assembly of construction sites and preparation for excavations and construction of tunnels and ventilation shafts, in addition to the eight new stations. 

  

  

The contract includes the construction of a double-track tunnel of 7.8 km in length and 11.69 m in diameter with a TBM EPB; a set of tunnels of 1.8 km in length for parking trains to be executed using the Austrian method; the Vila Formosa station and the bus terminal and the Rapadura complex with a base for train maintenance and parking; five ventilation shafts with diameters between 12 and 15 m and the ballastless track superstructure (permanent platform superstructure).    

  

When the extension to Penha is completed, Line 2-Green will be 23 km long, with 22 stations from Vila Madalena. It will become the most extensive metro line in São Paulo, connecting directly with lines 1-Blue (Paraíso and Ana Rosa), 3-Red (Penha), 4-Yellow (Paulista), 5-Lilac (Chácara Klabin ), 15-Prata (Vila Prudente) and 11-Coral (Penha), transporting more than 1.1 million people per day. 

  

In the future, Line 2 will be extended to Guarulhos. This project includes a further 5.9 km and 5 stations on the Penha-Dutra section with the Penha de França, Tiquatira stations (connection with lines 12-Safira and 13-Jade), Paulo Freire, Ponte Grande (first in Guarulhos) and Dutra , close to Guarulhos International Shopping Mall and a train maintenance and parking yard.
